Generative AI’s Growing Impact on CFOs: Strengthening Cybersecurity, Fraud Detection, and Customer Service

Generative AI is quickly becoming an invaluable tool for CFOs of large U.S. companies, driving notable improvements in operational efficiency and decision-making. As the technology becomes more widely adopted, CFOs are witnessing tangible returns on investment and expanding its use across a range of key business functions. One area where CFOs are seeing significant benefits is cybersecurity. Many are turning to GenAI to bolster their defenses, reflecting increasing confidence in its ability to reduce risks and streamline operations. In addition to cybersecurity, GenAI is also proving valuable in detecting fraud and errors, with many CFOs adopting the technology to enhance accuracy and efficiency in these critical areas. Furthermore, a growing number of CFOs are deploying GenAI-powered chatbots to automate routine customer interactions, allowing their teams to focus on more strategic and high-priority tasks.

However, while the adoption of GenAI continues to spread, trust in its capabilities remains a key consideration. Most CFOs express confidence in its ability to support risk management and strategic decision-making, but there are still concerns regarding the technology’s accuracy and data security. Around 30% of CFOs have reservations about the quality of insights generated by GenAI, and 28% are concerned about the potential risks of unauthorized access to sensitive company data. Despite the efficiencies GenAI brings, CFOs acknowledge that human oversight remains vital. While GenAI can manage routine tasks like content generation and code development, many CFOs agree that innovation and high-level decision-making still require human input. CFOs continue to explore the potential of GenAI, building trust in the technology, addressing data security concerns, and maintaining necessary human oversight will be essential to ensuring its successful integration into their operations.
