Deutsche Bank has announced the appointment of Raja Akram as its next Chief Financial Officer, marking a key step in its leadership evolution as the bank advances its long-term growth strategy. Akram, currently Deputy CFO at Morgan Stanley, will join the bank on October 1 and assume the CFO role following a brief transition. He succeeds James von Moltke, who will step down when his term ends in June 2026. Until then, von Moltke will continue focusing on delivering the bank’s 2025 financial targets. Akram brings nearly two decades of experience from senior finance roles at Morgan Stanley and Citigroup, including positions as Chief Accounting Officer and Global Controller. His appointment reinforces Deutsche Bank’s commitment to global financial excellence as it strengthens its leadership bench for the next phase of transformation.
CEO Christian Sewing welcomed Akram’s appointment, emphasizing the value of his global perspective and leadership track record. “Raja brings deep expertise and strong judgment developed across two of the world’s leading financial institutions,” Sewing said. “His insights will be instrumental as we continue executing our strategy and delivering long-term value for stakeholders.” Supervisory Board Chairman Alexander Wynaendts echoed this confidence, noting, “Raja is exceptionally well-qualified to lead Deutsche Bank’s Finance function. His appointment reflects our focus on continuity, discipline, and forward-looking leadership.” Akram expressed enthusiasm for the role, stating he is “honored to join Europe’s leading bank at such a pivotal moment” and is eager to help shape its next chapter of growth.
