Klarna has launched its AI for Climate Resilience Program, selecting six projects from more than 1,200 global proposals to support communities facing climate-related risks. The initiative focuses on practical uses of artificial intelligence to strengthen climate adaptation, including tools for water security, disaster preparedness, public health, and agriculture in regions most affected by environmental change.
The selected projects span India, Nigeria, Indonesia, Latin America, and global partners, and include AI-based disaster loss verification, irrigation systems using man-made glaciers, water source monitoring in drought-prone areas, early weather guidance for women workers, village-level disaster training, and biodiversity mapping. Klarna will support each organization with funding, mentoring, and technical guidance over 18 months, drawing on its experience applying AI across its own operations.
The program builds on Klarna’s broader sustainability efforts, including its Climate and Nature Transformation Funds, through which the company has directed more than $24 million to over 100 climate and nature projects worldwide since 2021. David Sandström, CMO at Klarna, said the initiative reflects growing interest in using AI to translate complex environmental data into locally relevant tools. Independent experts noted that the program strengthens organizations working at the climate frontlines while reinforcing the role of responsible technology in adaptation efforts.
